This is where the extremes of nature meet, the small golden sands of desert running along a river, swaying with shrubberies near a forest surrounded by mountains. We will spend the day here and rest in a nearby tourist camp.             (B + L + D = Breakfast, lunch, dinner)

Day 3: Moving along to see the ruins of the ancient town of Kharkhorin, the world heritage site which, once, served as the capital of the Mongol Empire. Nearby is the Erdene Zuu Monastery, the earliest surviving Buddhist monastery. The temple went through periods of neglect and prosperity and is now, finally, an active Buddhist monastery as well as a museum open to tourists. (B + L + D)

Day 4: Next, we will visit the Ongi Monastery located in Saikhan-Ovoo soum of Dundgovi Province. It was one of the largest monasteries in Mongolia before the 1937 communist purges. In 2004, monks rebuilt a small temple, using some original beams from the old ruined monastery. Also, there is a small museum beside the monastery showcasing some artefacts found at the site, many of which were hidden by monks to save them from the purges. (B + L + D)

Day 5: Our next stop is the Flaming Cliffs, a region of the Gobi Desert in the Umnugovi Province. It is renowned for yielding the first discovery of dinosaur eggs. The name represents the glowing red hue of the sandstones at sunset. (B + L + D)

Day 6: Continuing on, we will get to the top of the most spectacular and largest sand dunes in Mongolia. The Khongoryn Els (a.k.a Duut Mankhan meaning “Singing Sands”) is up to 300m high and the views of the desert from the sandy summit are wonderful. The northern border of the dunes is skirted by a small river, the Khongoryn Gol, where green pastures are noted. (B + L + D)

Day 7: Move along to the Yolyn Am, a deep gorge with a dramatic rocky cliffs and narrow, heavily shaded canyons that allow sheets of blue-veined ice to survive well into the summer. (B + L + D)

Day 8: Next, we will head to the Tsagan Suvarga, a name given by local people to an impressively eroded cliff. Over millions of years various changes in the environment have produced its famous colored layers. The formation is over 50 meters at its highest point and it is a sheer slope, which from a distance seems to be the ruins of an ancient city. (B + L + D)

Day 9: Nearing the end of the tour, we will visit the Baga gazriin Chuluu, mountains of granite stone massifs and scree located in Dundgovi Province. The place is also near to other attractions, such as the Ger Chuluu with life-size petroglyphs, Jargalant Cave, Sudutiin Am /a valley/ and a spring supposedly good for eyesight. (B + L + D)

Day 10: We will return to Ulaanbaatar and have a quick tour around the city. Our first stop is the Gandantegchinlen Monastery with the 26m tall statue of Avalokiteśvara in it.
